Because God Forbid anyone have to acknowledge any possibility that someone, who may be here legally by the way, may be more comfortable speaking in the language of their home country. I'll bet Marian would be irritated to know that his picture is being manipulated to spread political agendas. Then again, I could be wrong, and maybe he was filled with an irrational dislike of people based on skin color or nationality.

Sheesh. We should care about this?

Oh, QD get over it.

If you can't learn the lingo, get out gringo.

The hispanics are the only group this country has ever catered to for some reason. Every other ethnic group that has ever migrated to this country came in the right way, learn the lingo and contributed to building the country as Americans. Most all Hispanics come over here the wrong way, live off the taxpayer and want you to build for America for them.

Which Hispanics are you referring to? Since coming to California, I have seen plenty of Hispanics learning the language. They tend to work extraordinarily hard, too.

Also, Hispanics have been in the West waaaaaaaay longer than whites. So this is not a minority heretofore unseen in America (i.e., Arabs, Asians and most Europeans).

The villification of Hispanics by conservatives is a sharp contrast to the slavish devotion conservatives have to Cuban exiles.

But, sadly for the race baiters, one piece of legislation that is almost guaranteed is immigration reform...along the lines favored by Bush. While not popular with the conservative base, I think its passage is all but assured.

Unfortunately for them, conservatives may have to learn from the failed anti-Hispanic strategy. California is solidly Democratic, thanks to that kind of "strategy." Who knew the permanent majority the Republicans were working to build was Democratic?

Seems as though WayneDog is the only one that needs to "get over it"--seems to hold a lot of resentment & hate towards Hispanics. Just remember buddy, much of the West is original Mexican land!

Get over what, Wayne? I'M not the one who's complaining, dude. Learn your history. California and Texas and the whole Southwest were "Spanish" long before the Anglos got her, and took it by force.

And let's not forget Jimmy Stewart. From wikipedia: "In August 1943 he was finally assigned to the 445th Bombardment Group in Sioux City, Iowa, first as Operations Officer of the 703d Bombardment Squadron, and then its commander. In December, the 445th Bombardment Group flew its B-24 Liberator bombers to Tibenham, England and immediately began combat operations. While flying missions over Germany, Stewart was promoted to Major. In March 1944, he was transferred to the 453rd Bombardment Group, a new B-24 outfit that had been experiencing difficulties, as Group Operations Officer. In 1944 he twice received the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions in combat, and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. He also received the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. In July 1944, after flying 20 combat missions, Stewart was made Chief of Staff of the 2nd Combat Bombardment Wing of the Eighth Air Force. Before the war ended he was promoted to Colonel, one of only a few Americans to rise from private to colonel in four years." Impressive. A true hero.

Ok folks,

Name me ONE parcel of land in the world, at anytime in history, that was not taken by force.

Even 'peaceful' American Indians were warring and butchering each other over land.

QD- Has not every Quaker in history settled on land that was taken by force from someone?

Sat Nov 18, 08:33:00 AM
Blogger quakerdave said...

The Pennsylvania Quakers settled on land that was given over to them via a treaty signed by - and negotiated with - the Native people already there. The Quakers there never used force to retain or expand their lands. They respected every treaty they signed.

That is a fact. You can look it up, if you want to bother.

Cool! So this means I can come over to your house and take it over, right? I mean, you white people do seem to be mighty busy "warring and butchering each other." Don't worry, though; I'll let you live in a small corner of the backyard and occasionally send you some surplus frybread and kanuche. I'll probably also name a professional stickball team after you.

Well, you can try. I am the cowboy thats a pretty good shot with my 44 Mag. But Crank, you miss the point just like QD did; most all land that is lived on today was taken by force from someone.

There is no way that QD can accurately state that "the Pennsylvania Quakers settled on land that was given over to them via a treaty signed by - and negotiated with - the Native people already there" that the land given to the Quakers was not previously taken by force before it was given to the Quakers.

My point with the North American Indians was that they too fought and warred with each other over the very land that they had. Everybody has.

When this country becomes weak through the efforts of liberals over the next few years, we too will be vunerable to the next group that wants to settle North America through force.

"But Crank, you miss the point just like QD did; most all land that is lived on today was taken by force from someone."

Sooooo...your point is, two wrongs make a right?

"My point with the North American Indians was that they too fought and warred with each other over the very land that they had. Everybody has."

And that makes it okay to steal their land? We "had it coming" because, at least according to you, we fought over the land before the European Invasion?

"When this country becomes weak through the efforts of liberals over the next few years, we too will be vunerable to the next group that wants to settle North America through force."

And according to your theory, that will be perfectly okay and completely justifiable, because white people stole the land from someone else. If stealing from the Indians is okay, how can you complain when "the next group" comes to steal it from you?

Okay, I got it now. My mistake. You don't believe in the rule of law at all; you believe in anarchy, survival of the strongest (or the best armed). Might makes right, or rather conquest makes right. A very Christian point of view, I must say. I seem to recall Jesus saying "Blessed are those who are strapped" during the Sermon on the Mount. Hope that philosophy works out for you, as long as you are the strongest, anyway.
And, incidentally cowboy, if you guys hadn't had smallpox on your side, we would totally have kicked your asses back into the ocean.

If I remember correctly, you were the one coming into my yard to take it over and put me in the back to feed scraps when you felt like it....that's when the 44 came out. I won't give it to ya without a fight....do you even remember your reasoning? You see, the rule of law was thrown out the window when you tried to take over my place....your just mad cuz I won't let you without a fight....lol.

"This is fun....."

It IS fun. It's even funner when you read your own posts.

You said this:

"Name me ONE parcel of land in the world, at anytime in history, that was not taken by force."

And then THIS:

"Even 'peaceful' American Indians were warring and butchering each other over land."

So I just used your own argument. taking people's land is okay if they are "warring and butchering each other" over it beforehand. I then applied that argument to your land (which, ironically enough, is in Northern Georgia, what was the Cherokee Nation for a couple of thousand years). This is what is sometimes referred to as "sarcasm." I often use it when I hear white people going on about how Mexicans are coming to "steal" "their" land. Or, put another way, I don't really want your house, so you can put away whatever gun real or imagined you are pretending to use to defend against my pretend invasion.

Mine was sarcasm too Crank.....

Let's do this; agree to disagree about how people come about 'inheriting' land.

Let me say this about you though...I like you. I like that you have that 'in your face' attitude and that you stand up for what you believe. After reading some of your posts and links on your posts I can see that you are very passionate about your heritage and your people; this is good.

I can’t understand though why you are a liberal. It’s hard for me to understand how a Christian can be liberal and support the democrat party platform, including abortion.

Tell you what, I promise to disagree with you in a more civil and logical manner than I have in this thread. I promise not to leave any hateful or derogatory comments on you blog that may insult you.

I’m just a 40 something white boy set in my ways about certain things and will comment about almost anything. I love the Lord and His Son Jesus Christ. If it’s Ok with you, I’m going to link your blog on mine so I can remember to read your posts as you write them.

And I can't understand how a conservative can't support the cause of Native Americans; after all, this is a group who were deprived of their land, property and guns by a greedy and overbearing federal gov't. Should be right up y'all's alley. I also can't understand how "conservative" Christians can fail to grasp that there is MUCH more to Christianity than abortion or gay marriage. In fact, check your New Testament and see how many times Jesus mentions homosexuals or abortion (0 times) versus the number of times He commands us to serve the poor and downtrodden.

"Tell you what, I promise to disagree with you in a more civil and logical manner than I have in this thread. I promise not to leave any hateful or derogatory comments on you blog that may insult you."

Deal.

"I’m just a 40 something white boy set in my ways about certain things and will comment about almost anything."

Not a problem. Some of my best friends are white boys.

"I love the Lord and His Son Jesus Christ."

Me, too. It's some of His followers that scare the hell out of me.

"If it’s Ok with you, I’m going to link your blog on mine so I can remember to read your posts as you write them."

I love a good premium cigar. We can smoke those together!

There is more to Christianity than gay and abortion issues. But remember, Jesus is God and the New Testament and the Old should never be divided; they are one book to the Christian.

God hates sin; period.

Homosexuality and abortion are just as much sin as adultery, lying, coveting, idol worship, et al. Homosexuality is a continual cycle of un-broken sin. Abortion is murder.

When a person comes to Christ, he puts away the things of old and he/she is a new creature; old things are passed away.

It's a sin thing with God.

I'm going to admit that I haven't read all of these posts, but I am surprised that it somehow transformed to being about how gay people are sinners. Just remember, if it weren't for the sinners, you wack job Christians wouldn't have any one to make you feel so damn high and mighty.

And then we wouldn't have Easter. Which would mean I couldn't get those awesome Cadbury Cream Eggs. oh, and Peeps, I like them a lot too. Therefore, without sinners, we don't get good candy. How boring would life be if everyone were "perfect?" And again, there's the no candy thing.

Just to let you in on a little secret; cigars and cigarettes are actually part of our fiendish plan to kill off all the white people with lung cancer. That's why we fobbed off the tobacco on those rubes at Jamestown. Remember, you didn't hear it from me...

"God hates sin; period.
Homosexuality and abortion are just as much sin as adultery, lying, coveting, idol worship, et al."

A good point, since the apostate tele-Pharisees who dominate the blasphemous "Religious" Right seem to believe that abortion and homosexuality are the ONLY two sins in existence. You saw what happened to the new president-elect of the Christian Coalition when he suggested that maybe, just maybe, they ought to read, and obey, the New Testament and not just Leviticus.

ulqI like a premium cigar. I smoke one or two at the most a month. I like to, occasionally, have a premium beer with my meal.

Smoking a cigar a day would be unwise to me. Smoking 10 cigars a day would be abuse of tobacco.

Drinking a 6-pack of beer with the meal would be unwise to me. Drinking a case of beer daily would be abuse of alcohol.

I should say, that as a former tobacco user (dip), I'm not trying to tell anyone how to live, but I quit because there are, to my knowledge, NO health benefits to tobacco use. Even when used occasionally. Cigars are actually about the most unhealthy of your tobacco options. It seems, anymore that they are also more of a social/fashion thing. It makes me laugh that there are Cigar smoking magazines. What's the lead article..."Advancing Your Cancer, How To Do It and Look Really Cool at the Same Time: An In Depth Look."
A premium beer? Who says that? Like "Matts Premium?" I may ahve jsut given away my age there. Beer is good. I like to have 2 or three on the weekends. Or a good wine. Only in moderation, though. There are plenty of benefits associated with moderate use of those fine products. Bottoms Up!

Fri Dec 01, 05:41:00 AM
Blogger WayneDawg said...

There are no health benefits to many things people do daily that don't involve tobacco or alcohol...

Driving a car
Mowing the grass
Trimming hedges
Flying in a plane
Watching Nascar (or any sport)

The list is long......

None of us know when our last day on Earth will be.....I'm not going to worry about what a monthly cigar does to my health in the grand scheme of things. George Burns smoked 3 or 4 cigars a day.....He lived to be 100. Some people die of lung cancer in their 20's and never touched tobacco.

Life is short. Eternity is forever; make sure you know where your going when you die.

Waynedawg, you are the one who brought up the tobacco being used "unwisely", I simply asked a question, and now you're trying to confuse the issue with your "none of knows when we're going to die" and "mowing the lawn is dangerous" thing. And how did this go back to being a spiritual thing? Enjoy your "premium" cigars and beers...I'm done with this.

You said there are no health bebefits to tobacco; I supplied items that there are also no health benefits to. Simple enough. I then showed examples of tobacco use and non-tobacco use. I finished with the fact that we all die. That's all...As far as the spiritual thing goes...I like for people to know where they are going when they die.....that's the evangelist in me.
