Take Action

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., (R-TN) has announced that the Senate will likely vote on H.R. 6061, the Secure Fence Act THIS WEEK. Debate is expected to begin Wednesday (September 20) with a vote likely Thursday (September 21).
Earlier this week Leader Frist said, "Border security is the essential first step of any effort to enact immigration reform."

H.R. 6061 was introduced September 13 by Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King (R-NY). The House of Representatives passed the Secure Fence Act September 14 by a vote of 283-138-1.
The bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to:
Construct 700 miles of reinforced fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, right now there are only 70 miles of fencing along the border;
Provide for the installation of additional physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras, and sensors in five specified lengths (encompassing approximately 700 miles) along the United States’ southwestern border;
Require DHS to study the necessity, feasibility, and economic impact of constructing a similar barrier along the U.S.-Canada border;
Enhance border infrastructure, including checkpoints, roads, and vehicle barriers; and
Direct DHS to achieve and maintain “operational control” of our borders within 18 months of enactment and require reports on the progress toward this goal;

If you want to be a part of convincing your Senator to vote for this bill, you can either call or email them, or you can still check out the website
where you can find out more about illegal immigration including how much or how little your representatives are doing in the House and Senate, and you can find out all the contact information for your Representative and Senators. Also, should you join their organization, which is free, you have the opportunity to send your Representative and Senators free faxes to express your opinion even if you do not have a fax machine.

This is as close as we have come to our government doing anything real against illegal immigration, so if you care about this issue, you have today and tomorrow to do something.
