Protect and Defend

Welcome to my blog, Protect and Defend. You don’t have to understand me. You only have to agree with me. I can live with losing the good fight, but I can not live with not fighting that good fight at all. - Publius

Congratulations to Italy on winning their fourth World Cup in penalty kicks, twelve years after losing in the World Cup finals to Brazil on penalty kicks.

The Italians were playing in their second straight extra-time match, and even though they were exhausted and struggling to even make it up and down the field, they showed class and an enthusiasm for the game thus deserving the win and the trophy over a classless and unsportsmanlike France.

Yeah, I think I am going to go through some World Cup withdrawals. Now I keep thinking about going to Europe in 2 years for the European Championship matches and then South Africa in four years for the World Cup 2010.
I had long ago decided I thought baseball was one of the most boring sports, watching golf on TV is incredibly boring, I have trouble getting into hockey, pro-basketball players are overpaid a-holes and too so boring to watch, so that only leaves me with the NFL and college football, March Madness and NASCAR, so it was really cool to see soccer being played internationally where players were playing for their country to decide who really was the World Champion when the whole world actually plays.
Guess I am back to NASCAR and waiting for football season.

And he won't admit to here, but I'll do it for him...Nascar, football and WWE. That's right, Publius is a bonafide Hulkamaniac! Wears the do rag and ripped up T singing "I am a Real American" everywhere he goes! I was always more partial to the Nature Boy myself. WHOOOOOOO!

Don't forget, MLS every Saturday afternoon at 4pm on ESPN2. Not the same quality as WOrld Cup, but if you discovered you really liked the game of soccer not a bad substitute.

Well if I really want to watch a match I do have the DC United right here in DC with little Freddy and I think Donovan, but it is not the same and I don’t know anyone else who would want to go up to RFK.

I am a real American, fight for the rights of everyman, I am a real American fight for your rights, fight for your life, DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH NA NUH

You could really make the song your own, and replace 'fight' with 'blog'...that'd be kind of funny. I'll go to a United game with you...provided you buy all the drinks. RFK isn't so bad, at least not as bad as the old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore...I went to a Ravens game once and was sure I'd have bullet holes in me by the time I got back to the car.

Don’t get me wrong, I love RFK and I love RFK a lot more than Fed Ex even with the extra 30,000 some fans that can fit in the stadium. First, RFK is actually in DC and not Maryland – they could be called the Maryland Redskins now. Second, RFK was a loud stadium and it would shake when the Redskins were winning a game or when the crown got really into it. Third, it was easy to get to because it was not far from the Metro stop so you didn’t have to take the metro and then a bus. Finally, the seats were bigger both in width and leg room.
