Protect and Defend

Welcome to my blog, Protect and Defend. You don’t have to understand me. You only have to agree with me. I can live with losing the good fight, but I can not live with not fighting that good fight at all. - Publius

Political Ideologies

This is how I see the various political ideologies that people claim to hold.

Libertarian- I want to do as many dugs as I want. I want to own as many guns as I want. I don’t want the government to tell me to do or be anything. But, I do want the government to have a strong police force because I don’t want anyone to shoot me and take my drugs. Oh and I want a strong military because I don’t want someone from another country coming in and taking my drugs. But, I don’t want the government to tax me because I don’t want to pay for either.

Liberals- We are all equal and we should all should be treated equally and we should all have equal possessions because none of us are any better than anyone else. Except me because I am special.

Conservative- This country once was great but now we are headed down a slippery slope towards our own destruction, so we will do anything we can to slow it down or put a stop to the destruction on this country.

Socialist- I want the government to take care of me from the day I am born until the day I die. I don’t want to have to make any real decisions but I do want the government to ensure I have a job or at least unemployment that will allow me to live in a manner I am accustomed to, I want to take at least a month of vacation a year, and I should never be fired for doing a bad job because I am still doing a job. I would care more about what is going on, but that is the government’s job.

Communist- We love the Leader because the Leader tells us we love him. We the workers and the farmers shall rule as the Leader shays we should. The Leader has provided for us including this bread line I have been standing in for the past three hours.

Fascists/Totalitarians- Under the rule of one good man we will have good government and under good government we will have a good society. We love the one who leads because he is a good man and we will do anything he asks because he is a good man and under the rule of one good man we will all prosper.

Pacifists- Violence is never the answer. Martin Luther King, Jr. did not use violence, Gandhi did not use violence and they both changed the world. Hitler would have eventually died so peaceful protests would have worked to stop his evil rule too.

Environmentalist- Corporations are destroying the environment. Government is destroying the environment. SUVs are destroying the environment. Hunters are destroying the environment. Fossil Fuels are destroying the environment. That’s why I only wear all hemp, never eat meat, and ride my bicycle to work and Starbucks.

Radical Islam- Kill the infidels. Those in the West are infidels. All non-Muslims are infidels.

Christian Right- Creationism is based on the bible so we know it is true. Darwinism is based on theories and there is not enough evidence to support it. If we were from apes God would have told us that, but he didn’t. What are you going to believe, God or a theory?

That was a valiant attempt to categorize Libertarians. Like most things, there are many deviations of Libertarianism and many political off-shoots as well. I get why your prose is done in a flippant manner to mimic your current mood. I actually can relate as I have made sarcasm into an artform at my blog.
WWW.LP.ORG is a good place to start to calibrate your facts about my party. But again, I respect your right to extrapolate those into whatever prejudices you have imbedded in your mind. I would comment on the other credos, but I don't feel smart enough to take on your other interpretations.

Well Betmo, my guess is that Publius belongs to the only one NOT written facetiously.(Conservative.) Coulda done a better job poking fun at your own beliefs, Publius. I kinda like the Facist one, so long as the "good man" leader you speak of is Steven A. Smith from 'Quite Frankly'.

These were hilarious, good job Pube. I think you nailed a lot of 'em. And TP is right, I think there are so many people out there claiming to be Libertarians but who disagree, the deviations seem endless. I kinda like that in a party. I mean my hippy neighbor and Neal Boortz would wind up killing one another in hand to hand combat if they ever got into a political discussion, yet theyre both self-proclaimed libertarians. The thing they most have in common is their hatred for liberals...

What's the problem with the liberal viewpoint? I think you nailed it Publius. We are all equals, except for me being so goddamned awesome. Bow down baby!

Betmo, I would consider myself half Conservative, three-eights Fascist, and one-eighth Environmentalist.

Interesting breakdown. I'm going with 3 parts liberal, 3 parts libertarian, 2 parts apathy.

Betmo, I do think that I am in a political category all by myself which is good and bad. It’s bad because I know I am never gone to have anyone in office who I am going to 100% agree with, but it is good because I can’t really be accused of any one think because I am all over the map.

Mykiss, I forgot about apathetic, although I will sort of consider that socialist because it means you don’t care as long as the government does it for you.

Sure I would rather people believe as I believe, but more importantly I would rather people just believe in something and participate. If you don’t vote you don’t get to complain, and if you don’t know the issue than how can you have an opinion on it?

I've always considered myself a right-leaning libertarian. I recently got into a discussion with some small-L libertarians about immigration policy. It came to an impasse when I asked what the difference between a libertarian and an anarchist is. I'd always thought that it is the recognition of the necessity of government despite its tendecy toward authoritianism.

One more thing, there is a far cry between advocating ending the WoD and advocation of drugs or their use. Most people don't use illegal drugs and libertarians are no different.

good post all the same

My Kiss, I only said you would be part socialist for being part apathetic. But, you are definitely somewhere over there on the Left. With you being so far left and me so far right we might meet in the middle on the other side.

Plumber, my knowledge of Libertarians comes from Neil Bortz who is just a conservative but doesn’t want to be labeled one so he calls himself a Libertarian. And Penn Gillette the “magician” and now radio show host who talks about legalizing drugs and owning guns and being an atheist. I listen to Penn because I love to hear idiocy on the radio sometimes.

i have given this much thought and i really think that i am an independent with liberal tendencies. i agree with the right on a few issues and disagree with the left on a few. i don't really know what label fits me- so i am not going to label myself. i am independent of party and labels.
