Brown People

I always wonder how or why people equate being against illegal immigration as somehow “being against brown people,” in order to depict those who are against illegal immigration as racists. Is “brown people” somehow the new acceptable term?
It is true, I am against illegal immigration, but I am against illegal immigration regardless of the color of skin, sex, religion, age, nationality, or race. If anything, it is the least racist perspective because it treats everyone equally.

i can't speak for others- but the only people being talked about on the rightist blogs i have been checking out(present company excluded) are arabs and mexicans. hence, brown people. i like being corrected in this arena- because i would rather be wrong than right. so, if you could point me in a direction where i could read some other blogs with a right bend- that doesn't constantly talk about arab muslims or illegal mexicans- i will be grateful.

Sorry Betmo, but you read the same “conservative” blogs that I read, so I can only speak for myself here. But, those on the left call it my attack on brown people. But, 63% of the people caught illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico Border are from Mexico, sot there is the bulk of the issue.

i understand- and i guess from my perspective- there are more pressing matters. the immigration thing is important to deal with- but it doesn't have to be done right this minute. i guess that is why i am perplexed. you do see why it seems that your party is against brown people though?

Betmo, you are absolutely 100% incorrect on this.
Regardless of the fact that the Senate and President are going to try to pressure the House into passing an amnesty bill and are in the process of sending Senate leaders over to the House to browbeat the lower chamber into submission, there is no problem in America that is not being made worse by illegal immigration. I will pick one of the most random, but most fun to discuss: Hurricane Katrina.
You may remember the Mayor Ray Nagin say New Orleans will be “Chocolate Again,” well this was not in reference to white people and instead that with all the black people in the lower 9th and other parts of New Orleans being displaced around the country, the Hispanic population has boomed as Hispanic immigrants, both legal and illegal, are flooding the city to do work. Nagin was against this flood of Hispanics into New Orleans.

Also, look at the other side of this coin with Gay Marriage. Hispanics, and Mexican people in particular are religious conservatives and the Catholic Church is extremely important to them and their lives which I can attest to having gone to a Spanish-language Mass here in me neighborhood which did not exist about 10 years ago. Do you think these Conservative Catholics are going to want Gay Marriage or Abortion? I know this can be seen as some sort of scare tactic, like “don’t let in the immigrants or you won’t have gay marriage or abortions,” but think about how adding 66 million new people over the next 20 years through immigration alone would influence so many things.
