Protect and Defend

Welcome to my blog, Protect and Defend. You don’t have to understand me. You only have to agree with me. I can live with losing the good fight, but I can not live with not fighting that good fight at all. - Publius

Now who is wearing the Flip-Flops?

Today the President visited Yuma, Arizona where he advocated building actual security fences along the border. Hasn’t he been saying for weeks now that he was against this? I don’t know if this means he is coming around or if he is doing more pandering than Monday because his speech flopped with his conservative base, but we can hope for the first.

A day late and a few dollars short in my humble opinion, but anything that keeps this in the forefront of the media is a good thing. It is because of the media bombardment that this has become the pre-eminent issue for 2006. The war in Iraq has most people brain-tired, this has awaked the American consciousness into real problems here at home. I think it is Ironic in a way that the more the liberal crowd harps about this, the more it helps the President,... politics makes for strange bedfellows.

Yeah, I have made the point on many occasions, how is it the same people who preach “Impeach Bush,” and “Bush is a War Criminal,” all of a sudden think his immigration policy is spot on. If they really believe that Bush is somehow a moron and bad for the country then how do they explain their agreement with him on immigration? An Anon poster on here made a comment of something to the extent that “even a blind person can connect with the baseball every once in awhile.” Well, with Bush leading the Democratic charge on immigration, I think we have the blind leading the blind.

Ooooh, I've been quoted by Publius, well, paraphrased at at least. What a treat! He's trying to "please all of the people all of the time." Let's face it, lagging polls probably have a lot to do with his decision making. I think he's going against his normal inclinations to curry some support that otherwise just wouldn't be there. Some of us have to take what we can get with this administration. And, by the by, could someone please send the man some anti persperant, those pit rings are quite unsightly!

Well, it seems that few people are getting what they want from this administration. If bush wants to turn it around he can do two things this week.
1. Do another nationally televised speech, especially now that most shows are done for the season, and tell people that like Brazil he is going to encourage this country to stop our dependency on oil and switch to using biodiesel and alternative fuels and explain how it can be done. It took Brazil a little over 20 years to make the switch and they are a bigger country and a poorer country. With White House backing this country should be able to do it in less than 20 years.
2. In the same speech drop his misguided approach to immigration. Amnesty only for those with children born in this country, a security fence that stretches the length of the border, increased numbers of Border Patrol agents and thousands more are necessary, national identification cards for guest workers that are difficult to forge and include fingerprints, a guest worker program for immigrants for a period of six years after which they must return to their country of origin, prevention of guest worker status for any immigrant convicted of a felony or more than two misdemeanors, no amnesty or guest worker privilege for any immigrant involved in illegal gang activity, a re-interpretation of the 14th Amendment that prevents future generations of anchor babies, dissolving the high-tech guest worker program which is outsourcing done right here in this country, a moratorium on all immigration for a period of 3 years due to the millions granted immediate amnesty, a moratorium on any additional guest worker programs for a period of 4 years, dissolution of any hardship visas for those from countries with civil wars that have log since ended or currently occurring, during the moratorium paths to citizenship for only those living in communist countries which shall only be Cuba and North Korea, paths to citizenship for those immigrants from Iraq or Afghanistan, a $25,000 fine and up to one year in prison for any employer who hires an illegal immigrant per illegal employee hired, a $5,000 fee for any immigrant granted amnesty due to having a child born in this country which will be used to pay for additional Border Patrol and a security wall, all guest workers will be issued a temporary SSN which will be Three numbers-Two letters-Four Numbers so as not to be confused with current Social Security numbers (111-AA-1111), repealing of legislation that prevents National Guard troops from being involved in policing activities as they will be needed for border security and any hurricane relief and dealing with any pandemic that may occur, guest workers will have 30% of their wages taxed with 15% going to the federal government and 10% going to the state while the additional 5% goes to social services, all official government documents must be in English as well as all voting booths with the exception of medical, scientific, and legal terms, local and state law enforcement will be granted the ability to arrest illegal immigrants who do not possess a guest worker national identification card, the government will set aside $10 billion annually for states to request funds to help subsidize the additional immigrants, the practice of catch and release will be ended, additional beds and spaces will be constructed as temporary housing for all illegal immigrants caught as they wait deportation, a Super Prison will be constructed in the Middle of America where any illegal immigrant convicted of a felony will be housed and this will be a federal prison and paid for and supported by the federal government, any illegal immigrant involved in illegal gang activities or in drug smuggling will be immediately deported to their country of origin, those immigrants who receive instant amnesty for having a child who is an American citizen must prove their status with a birth certificate that names the mother and father and that child must be born by 6/1/06 otherwise no amnesty will be granted for those who have children born after this date and no child born after this date to illegal immigrants will be granted citizenship status, those applying for a guest worker national identification card have a period of 6 months to get their card from between 6/1/06 and 12/1/06 and will pay a $2,500 fine for their identification which will go to the $10 billion fund for states to request funds from, the guest worker national identification cards will be issued at DMV locations after normal business hours for the express purpose of issuing these IDs and allow immigrants to not take time off work to get one, and any immigrant after 12/1/06 who does not have a guest worker ID card will be deported and not allowed to apply again for citizenship or a guest worker program.

A quick light on a section of your posting,... A mechanism for usage of the Guard already exists under newly added provisions of title 6 of homeland security directives. The National Guard is not bound fully by Posse Comitatus because they don't fall under the title 6 and title 10 combatant-designation of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. Additionaly they can be used at Governor's discretion for in-country law support, or if the President deems it a national emergency.

Truth, thanks for that. Too bad the media doesn’t tell people that too and instead let them have the belief that we are “militarizing” the border.

"militarization" sounds sexy in the soundbites. To me news is driven by how much advertising dollars their ratings can get,.. thus behooving them to put as many "hot" words on their screen as possible. If they were to fully parametize themselves to just the facts without the sensationalism, they would not last a week on the air. Such has been the osmosis of the media.

Of course, violence and blood and sex sell. How many women get raped in this country every minute? And yet one alleged rape at Duke makes weeks of headlines.
