Protect and Defend

Welcome to my blog, Protect and Defend. You don’t have to understand me. You only have to agree with me. I can live with losing the good fight, but I can not live with not fighting that good fight at all. - Publius

Congratulations to the UVA Men’s Lacrosse Team

Virginia’s 15-7 victory over U-MASS in the NCAA men’s lacrosse title game at Lincoln Financial Field was the cap to an undefeated UVA season (17-0) and the Hoos fourth NCAA lacrosse title.

Paris’s new album

“Paris Hilton says her upcoming album will be a mix of reggae, pop and hip-hop, with the first single a reggae song called “Stars Are Blind.” Hilton will also remake Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” The “Stars are Blind” single is due this month from Warner Records and Hilton’s own Heiress label…” (Washington Post, May 30, 2006).

My first blog review

I would like to thank TruthPain for my first blog review; at least from what I have seen it is my first.

Protect and Defend : Publius has one of the most hard-topic driven blogs around. Although his latest Crusade (yeah... i said "crusade", get over it..) is Border enforcement and matters of Constitutional doctrine, he has written on a myriad of things. Anybody lucky enough to get a comment from Publius better have some cognitive reading skills because he is not cheap on the verbiage. Challenge him and he will reply in kind, always with veracity, well thought-out points and certitude. This blog is all substance, very little fluff (unlike yours truly...).
He has also reviewed some other blogs that I have spent my fair share of time looking at too. Take a look for yourself.

I guess I am still conservative

I would normally not post these self tests on here or my score for that matter. But, as this was a how liberal or conservative are you test and as I scored more liberal than I thought I would, I decided to share it here with you all and give you the link so you can try it for yourself.

Your Political Profile:
Overall: 70% Conservative, 30% Liberal

I did it again

I am just making Vicente more and more pissed off.

I live in a new neighborhood where they are still building many of the houses which means that every weekday the neighborhood is full of day laborers. This also means there are 3 roach coaches that drive around and serve tacos, burritos, and something called papusas (or something like that). But, literally everyday there are about 100 to 200 day laborers doing construction on the houses in this neighborhood and all of them are Hispanic and almost none of them speak English. Lucky for me, I spent years of high school learning Spanish not so that I could go to a Spanish speaking country, but because I need it here in this country. So much for the National Language idea or the amnesty plan which would require new citizens to learn English; they have been here this long and haven’t learned it, so I don’t know why they are going to start now.

Anyhow, Monday I was out mowing the lawn, and I am one of the few people in the neighborhood that has a lawn mower or uses it. Typically I mow the lawn on the weekends, but got to it on Monday this time. You would have thought I had three heads when a truck full of these day laborers drove by and slowed down and all starred at me mowing my lawn. I have a feeling it was one of the first if not only times they have seen someone in this neighborhood actually do their own lawn as it is a job that Americans won’t do.

I am one of those damn Americans who keep taking all their jobs. I think, Vicente is going to start protesting me soon.

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt

Somehow Brangelina named their baby girl after a Civil War Battle in Tennessee in April of 1862.

But, this is better. After the birth of what can only become the most attractive girl of all time, “Samuel Nuuyoma, the governor of the Erongo province, where parents Angelina Jolie and Brat Pitt are staying, described the scene to US Weekly: “I have been inundated with phone calls from Namibians all over the country who heard the news and the people are celebrating in the streets, and special prayers have gone out to them in churches. On behalf of the Erongo region, it is an honor and privilege for us to have had Angelina in our land at this special time…Just like Angelina, this precious Namibian-born baby will be our ambassador. This family has opened the doors for us to the world, who now look upon Namibia with new eyes” (Washington Post, May 29, 2006).

What’s worse, that this country’s big historical event is that some actress and actor had their baby in their country or that we even care? And Shiloh? Really?

This weekend

Like every Memorial Day weekend I go and help plant vegetables at a relative’s house. This usually involves hours of digging, hoeing, planting of seeds and small plants, throwing in Miracle Grow, and then watering with Miracle Grow.
I have been doing this for about 15 plus years now. It is not easy work and with my height it makes it even more difficult having to spend hours bent over with the sun on my back.
I of course couldn’t help but think while I was doing it that doing this work is something that Americans just won’t do. I thought about it even more while I watched the guy at the next house over doing the same thing I was. We exchanged some pleasantries with each of us talking about which plants would grow better and how much Miracle Grow to use. I spent most of Sunday afternoon doing some odd construction jobs and moving stuff to go to the dump.
At the end of both days I was dirty, tired, and a bit sore. Guess I am just another American who won’t do this kind of work.

Barry Bonds

I am not a baseball fan. I find I have enough sports to occupy my attention with Pro and College Football, College Basketball, NASCAR, and the occasional soccer game. But, I also really don’t like Barry Bonds who just surpassed Babe Ruth’s homerun record. So I wanted to include some info about the two from the Washington Post about which was the better baseball player. Remember The Babe actually stated off as a pitcher (Washington Post, May 28, 2006).

-Babe Ruth still has the all-time 12th-highest winning percentage (.671) and 15th-lowest ERA (2.28) among all pitchers with at least 100 career decisions.
- In 1920, Ruth hit 54 homeruns which was more than 14 of the other 15 teams in all of baseball. In 1927, Babe hit 60 which was more than every other American League team. Remember back in the day homerun hitting was not a big part of the game as it is now.
- Ruth still has the highest OPS in baseball history which is on-base percentage plus slugging percentage. Babe’s OPS was 1.164 while Bonds is fourth on the list at 1.052.
- Ruth hit 714 homeruns in 8,398 at bats or a homerun every 11.76 at bats. It took Bonds 9,246 at bats to hit 714, or one homerun per 12.95 at bats. Bonds had 848 more turns to tie Ruth.

Oh yeah, and Ruth never took steroids or any kind of cream to rub on his arms which are covered in some sort of mid-evil armor.

The hits keep right on coming.

I have been racking my brain to try and figure out how the Senate could have approved another amnesty bill when the one they passed in 1986 did not work and led to the disastrous situation we are in now.
Well, here’s the reason, there have been other amnesty bills in the past 20 years that have also passed. Oh yeah, it seems the Senate has been passing plenty of amnesty bills over the past 20 years, along with the House. I guess our Senators just figured we would let this one slide too like every other amnesty bill they have passed in the past.

U.S. Amnesties for Illegal Aliens
Congress has passed7 amnesties for illegal aliens, starting in 1986.
1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA) Amnesty, 1986: A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal aliens
2. Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994
4. Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America
5. Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
6. Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens
7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens
8. Nine current bills are vying to be Amnesty No. 8

To read the descriptions for these, go to:

I really encourage you all to go to and join their organization like I have. It is free and all they want is members so they can tell Congress how many people their organization represents. The other side has their lobbying groups, here is one for the good guys.

14th Amendment

So it does not get lost in the shuffle. I wanted to share a post that was included on this blog from Cubed. I also want to thank Cubed for this information as it is invaluable and includes information that I was not aware of either.

"But, absolutely no changes to the Constitution need to be made."

I think we need to educate our legislators; they are obviously in great need of a lesson or two in the Constitution.

You referred to the fact that the 14th Amendment was never intended to constitute a claim to citizenship just because a person was born here.

It's a little long, but worthwhile, to see what some of the Big Guns had to say about the intent of the 14th Amendment around the time it was written:

In 1866, it was recognized that the legal status of recently freed black slaves was in limbo, so the 14th Amendment was written in order to clarify it.

Senator Jacob Howard wrote: "Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, or who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons."

Thus, the original intent was specifically limited to freedmen, and specifically excluded "foreigners" and "aliens."

The 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868; it was NOT designed to enable illegal aliens who were breaking U.S. law to be given all manner of privileges at taxpayer expense, or to "go to the head of the line" for citizenship.

If our legislators had studied harder in school, they might know that an illegal alien mother is subject to the jurisdiction of her native country, not the U.S., as is her baby born on U.S. soil.

A bit of stickiness about the whole "born-in-the-USA-therefore-a-citizen" issue came up again a little over 100 years ago, when the decision about whether American Indians, whose reservations had been granted the status of independent nations, were citizens of the United States.

The Supreme Court held to the original, narrow intent of the 14th Amendment, and said they were not U.S. citizens; the phrase "subject to its jurisdiction" excluded them as "children of ministers, consuls, and citizens of foreign states born within the United States."

This presented a number of difficulties, so Congress decided to pass a special act, the "Citizens Act of 1924," which granted American Indians full citizenship. The act said: "The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth: 1) a person born in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof; 2) a person born in the United States to a member of an Indian, Eskimo, Aleutian, or other aboriginal tribe."

The provision "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" excludes aboriginal tribes not "subject to the jurisdiction" of the U.S. - hence, it excludes members of aboriginal peoples of foreign jurisdictions like Mexico and other Central and South American countries.

All of us who believe the mechanism exists already in the Constitution to exclude the children of illegals from automatic citizenship are right, and we need to let our woefully ignorant legislators know this.

Pass it on!

The official tally on Senate bill S. 2611 to grant amnesty

Here are the votes and here is who is coming up for election this year. It is time to dump those who stood with Mexico and reelect those who stood with the majority of Americans.

Word Verification

I hate having to turn on this Word Verification, but I did get spammed last night and I just spent about an hour getting rid of all of it. So now it’s on.

Presidentes Busho and Fox

Anyone else wonder if this might be Bush’s Christmas Card this year?

There are 62 traitors in the Senate. Sixty-two Senators voted in favor of S. 2611 which will grant amnesty and extend the guest worker program, cost American taxpayers millions, forever alter this country, and bends to the will and whim of the Mexican government. This is the most disastrous and incomprehensible legislation to come out of the Congress in a lifetime.

Oh, and here is one more thing. In this bill passed by the Senate, the U.S. has to consult with Mexico before they can build any additional security fences.

This was a last minute addition by Sen. Specter (R-PA).

This is not a Republican vs. Democrat issue, this is about right and wrong, and there are 62 Senators who are WRONG.

I almost forgot all about this

If I have a forged identification card or a forged Social Security Card it is a felony. But, remember the Senate was not going to grant amnesty to those who have committed a felony. Well as it turns out that was not true, because they will grant amnesty to those who do have a forged identification card or a forged Social Security card.
They aren’t even trying to hide the fact that they are granting amnesty at this point and now they are willing to forgive people for entering the country illegally and for forging government documents? And let’s not forget that they have also been working and not paying taxes on those wages.
How many people did Al Capone kill and how many laws did he break? If he were alive today he would have never gone to jail if he just said, “I am an illegal immigrant.” I am sure Teddy Kennedy would have forgiven him too.

I think I have been saying this.

Who knew I was one of the first voices for the black community on illegal immigration? This is an article from the Washington Times by Keyonna Summers, Black leaders oppose alien 'amnesty' plan (May 24, 2006).

Black leaders from across the country yesterday decried a guest-worker "amnesty" plan that would legalize millions of illegal aliens and threatened to sue the U.S. government if such legislation is passed. "We're on the cusp of very critical legislation that centers on immigration -- both legal and illegal," Frank Morris Sr., chairman of Choose Black America, a new coalition of black Americans opposed to illegal entry, told reporters at the National Press Club in Northwest. "African Americans are going to be hurt if this legislation moves forward, [and] we are here to sound the alarm." Choose Black America says that illegal entry hurts all U.S. citizens, but that job displacement by illegals has especially devastated black communities.

That was just the opening to the story. To read the full story go to:

Is it possible that the Republicans might have a way to get back the black vote by listening to the concerns of the members of their own Party? I am glad this was in a DC paper and I can only hope that the Senators who are going to vote on this reprehensible immigration plan read it too.

Repost. How you can make a difference

The Senate wants to vote to approve their amnesty plan by Monday, so there is little precious time left to email your Senator and inform them of your disapproval of their actions.
I have done my homework and found some easy ways for you all to let your Senators know how you feel about amnesty and the increased guest worker program.

This website will provide both a mailing address and a link that will take you directly to your Senators website where you fill in your contact information and you can email them directly. In addition, there is a think tank in Arlington, Virginia called NumbersUSA. “NumbersUSA Action is a non-profit, non-partisan, public policy organization that favors an environmentally sustainable and economically just America. It opposes efforts to use federal immigration policies to force mass U.S. population growth and to depress wages of vulnerable workers. NumbersUSA Action is pro-environment, pro-worker, pro-liberty and pro-immigrant. Activists in the NumbersUSA Action network are Americans of all races and include many immigrants and the spouses, children and parents of immigrants.”
NumbersUSA will fax your Senator and Congressman for you even if you do not have a fax machine, the fax will appear from the address you provide and the telephone number you provide regardless of whether that number is a cell phone. In addition, NumbersUSA has already written the faxes for you on various pieces of legislation and gives you the ability to edit the faxes to more closely match your thoughts.

You do have to register with NumbersUSA because you do have to provide your name, address, telephone number, and email as this information will be included on the fax to your Congressmen and/or Senators.

These two options are two quick and easy ways to get involved and before it’s too late.

14th Amendment

According to the Associated Press (May 23, 2006).

About 2 million families face the risk of being split up because the children are U.S.-born citizens but the parents are illegal immigrants. At least one lawmaker has proposed ending citizenship by birthright, restricting automatic citizenship at birth to children of U.S. citizens and legal residents… About 3.1 million children are U.S. citizens by birth, even though one or both of their parents are here illegally, according to estimates by the Pew Hispanic Center… “It’s not as large a magnet as jobs, but it will be easier to solve the problem of illegal immigration if we avoid the mixed-family situation,” said Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Ga., who tried unsuccessfully to revoke the citizenship-by-birth right in the immigration bill passed by the House in December.

So it seems that something can be done with the 14th Amendment without having to start a new Amendment process. All we need is for Congress to grow a backbone and do something about it.

Now, I don’t watch the WNBA because I don’t watch the NBA and I am concerned that somehow in watching, the overpaid NBA players might get some of that television revenue. But, I am tempted to watch some this season. I saw in the Washington Post Sports Section this morning that the Washington Mystics have a rookie from Western Illinois who is 6’7” (Washington Post, May 23, 2006). Yes, that is six feet and seven inches, but the more amazing thing is that Zane Teilane is only 170 pounds at 6’7”.
By comparison her teammate Latasha Byears is 5’11” and 206 pounds.

I was thinking about this tonight and I was going to some of the regular blogs that I like to learn more from and discuss the issues of the day. In this country it seems that the right is against freedom of speech while the left is against freedom from listening. One doesn’t want you to say it and the other doesn’t want to hear it.

Poor Hillary

Here is a funny quote.

“You can smell the fear in Hillary Clinton. What happened to that fearless woman? Everything she does is poll-tested. As a result you have a politician that stands for nothing. You wonder if she remembers what she stands for. That’s not even an attack on her, or maybe it is.”

From Arianna Huffington (Washington Post, May 22, 2006).

It’s bad for Hillary when the Right doesn’t even have to give her a hard time.

What if the Mexicans and Latin and South Americans were white?

I have heard this comment again and again that being against illegal immigration is racist. Now, I am sure there are people who are anti-illegal immigration who are racist just as I am sure there are people who are for illegal immigration who are racist, but let me play Devil’s advocate here. What if just south of the U.S. was say Iceland, and below that all of Europe, as if when the Pangaea split all the white people were in North and South America. Go with me on this because I know it throws a lot of history out the window, but try here.

What if?
Every year 3 million people from Iceland and Europe were all sneaking across the U.S. border and countless tens of thousands more were coming to “visit” and over staying their visas. And, more than half of all illegal narcotics were coming across that southern border often being smuggled into this country by white people as a means to pay their passage into the country. And every year, more than 18,000 Icelandic girls some of whom are under 18, are sold into a sex slave businesses in California alone. And these white people were working in jobs where they were not paying taxes which include federal and state taxes. And, although public education is free, their children attend schools, even though they do not pay the same taxes to support those schools as someone who doesn’t have children is still forced to pay. And, in those schools that are already financially stretched thin, the schools are required to spend additional resources for classes in Icelandic. And teachers in Texas who don’t know Icelandic are being displaced because they can not speak in the language of the Europeans coming into Texas illegally. And, many of these white people from underdeveloped third-world European countries are carrying diseases like polio and mumps that were essentially wiped out in the U.S., but because hospitals can not turn away anyone regardless of whether they have insurance, these people are treated, and the loss the hospitals take gets passed on to those who have insurance. And, these white people can go to “free clinics” to receive health care, where money from taxes are used to support these clinics. And, these white people are taking jobs that some Americans do want and do need in construction and the meat packing industry, and the wages for these jobs constitute some of the only industries where wages have gone down as inflation and the cost of living have gone up, while millions of Green people here in America can not find work because they lack a high school education. And, what almost seems like suddenly, radio stations are showing up along the dial in Icelandic only, and television station. Products you buy in the supermarket are labeled in United States-ian and Icelandic. When you go to Lowes or Home Depot, the announcements are in United States-ian first and then in Icelandic. And, every time you call a customer support line you hear Press two for Icelandic. And, you hear on the TV and watch on the news that the Mafia, the Bloods, and the Crips are all minor gangs compared to the IRA which has more than 50,000 members in the U.S. and in Europe and nearly 30,000 of those IRA members are in the U.S. And then suddenly the government decides, “Wait, we don’t even know how many Europeans are in this country. Is it 8 million, or 12 million, or 20 million? We don’t know.” So the government decides they want to stop letting these white people cross the border so easily and decide that they are going to build the rest of a security fence to try to seal off that border to stop more white people from coming across. And oh, there is also that problem that the Australians killed over 3,000 American people about 5 years ago and although they were all here mostly on expired visas, the Australians continue to threaten to kill more Americans by any means possible including if they can get their hands on a nuclear weapons which they could easily buy from the Russians since the Russians have no idea where thousands of their nuclear weapons are, and these nuclear weapons could be smuggled in an object no larger that a suitcase and brought across that border and set it off in a U.S. city and kill millions. And when you think about how crime families now control Russia and could easily sneak a nuclear weapon to the Australians, and that Iceland is a corrupt government too where officials could be bought off to aid the Australians in bringing a nuclear device across that border, the need arises to seal off that border from white people coming across because we don’t know how many Europeans are here now, but we know these white people are smuggling in millions of pounds of coke, heroin, meth, and marijuana each year, we do know they are smuggling in white sex slaves, and we do know they are smuggling in animals to sell on the black market as well.
And then these Icelandic people start to protest in the streets because the government decides, we need to stop this flow of white people who speak Icelandic into the country because we don’t even know how many of them are here. And at first these Icelandic people march in the streets with Icelandic flags, and French flags, and Romanian flags, and every other European flag, demanding that no additional security fences be built and demanding that the U.S. not enforce their laws of arresting these white people who have come across the border illegally. And these Europeans are also demanding citizenship. How did all these Icelandic people know to protest, well as it turns out a number of pro-Icelandic groups went onto Icelandic-language radio and TV and told them all to gather in the streets and protest. So, the people in the U.S. get upset, and the people on the far bottom of the Tomato Party start calling the legislation to protect the border and enforce the laws racist. The Potato Party, concerned that they have upset so many millions of Icelandic people, many of whom are here illegally, suddenly try to backtrack and amend the legislation that made being in this country illegally a felony and instead a misdemeanor, but the Tomato Party blocks the amendment, and plays politics with the issue. Seeing that their protests had an affect, the Europeans all protest again, and announce they will not show up to work or schools and attempt to cripple the U.S. economy for a day to show how many Europeans there are in this country, even though no one knows for sure. But, this time they pro-illegal European groups announce on Icelandic television and radio stations to only carry U.S. flags and even go so far as to order 10,000 of them for a protest in Washington, even though the flags were ordered from Austria. Then the President of the U.S. who is from the Potato Party gives a speech where he sides with the Tomato Party, and this upsets those on the far top of the Potato Party so they begin to email, and call, and write to their Congressmen. This leads to some members of the Potato Party in the Senate to realize there is strong support for the legislation in the House, so they stand with the bill. The members of the House in the Potato Party attempt again to make being here illegally a misdemeanor rather than a felony and get blocked again by the Tomato party, which makes the far top people even more motivated. The President then gives a speech where he attempts to show solidarity with his Potato Party by sending a tiny number of Citizen Soldiers to the border who will only be used for clerical and office work, but still sides with legislation from the Tomato Party, and that is where we are today.
Now all sides are frustrated and nothing may get accomplished because the members of the Potato Party in the House are not backing down now having been blocked by the Tomato Party from watering down their legislation, and the members of the Potato Party in the Senate are beginning to agree with their colleagues in the House. Meanwhile the members of the Tomato Party are determined to forgive the Europeans who broke the laws by coming here illegally, they are against closing off the border to stop the Europeans from entering, smuggling in drugs, or smuggling in sex slaves, and against closing off an easy means of entrance for the Australians who want to kill us. Both sides claim to be against amnesty for the Icelandic people, but the Potato Party actually means it whereas the Tomato Party is looking for another word for it because amnesty doesn’t poll well.

If you take out race which I know few are willing to do, it seems ludicrous that this country would not enforce the laws and close off the Southern border.

Now who is wearing the Flip-Flops?

Today the President visited Yuma, Arizona where he advocated building actual security fences along the border. Hasn’t he been saying for weeks now that he was against this? I don’t know if this means he is coming around or if he is doing more pandering than Monday because his speech flopped with his conservative base, but we can hope for the first.

Additional Immigration Information

Here are three more pieces of information that I thought were worthwhile to discuss.

1. The 370 miles of triple-layered fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border that was approved by the Senate yesterday is actually only 300 miles of additional fencing through the Arizona desert and fortifying 70 miles of existing fences near Sand Diego and parts of Arizona (The Washington Post, Senate Back Fence, Guest-Worker Curbs, May 18, 2006).

2. The Group, We Are America, is a pro-illegal immigration group made up of “41 immigrant resource groups, unions, churches, day laborers and Spanish-language disc jockeys opposes House legislation that would criminalize illegal immigrants, but it will lobby Congress and compromise to realize its goal of obtaining legal residency for many of the 11 million people” (Washington Post, Immigrant Supporters to Counter Bush Speech, May 15, 2006).

3. “A 2004 government report estimated that more than half of illegal immigrants come to the U.S. legally, then overstay their visas. Experts say the U.S. will remain a magnet as long as businesses are willing to hire such migrants” (Time, Who’s Going to Stop That Man?, May 22, 2006).

On the third point I am more than willing to admit that I was wrong. I did know that this was a problem, but I was unaware that overstayed visas constituted half of the illegal immigration problem. Interior enforcement as well as border security will need to go hand in hand to stop this problem.

How you can make a difference

Dear God, please read this. Please! This is what is at stake here.

The immigration reform bill now under congressional consideration would grant amnesty to some 10 million illegal immigrants – but its real effects would be much more far-reaching, according to an eye-opening study by the Heritage Foundation.
The foundation found that the changes in immigration law would allow an estimated 103 million persons to legally immigrate to the United States over the next 20 years and "dramatically" change "the character of the nation."
Current law allows 19 million legal immigrants over the next 20 years, so the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA), based largely on a compromise by Senators Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., and Mel Martinez, R-Fla., would add an extra 84 million legal immigrants to the nation's population.
"The figure of 103 million legal immigrants is a reasonable estimate of the actual immigration inflow under the bill and not the maximum number that would be legally permitted to enter," the Heritage report by Robert Rector, senior research fellow in domestic policy studies, points out.
"The maximum number that could legally enter would be almost 200 million over 20 years — over 180 million more legal immigrants than current law permits."
The massive increase in the number of legal immigrants would result from several changes contained in CIRA: The bill would grant amnesty to 85 percent of the current illegal immigrant population, or some 10 million individuals. Those receiving amnesty could bring their spouses and children into the United States as legal permanent residents with the opportunity for full citizenship. Heritage puts their number at 6 million.
CIRA creates a new "temporary guest-worker" program that is, in fact, anything but temporary. These workers would be allowed to remain in the United States for six years, but in the fourth year they could apply for legal permanent residence status if they have learned English or are enrolled in an English class.
In the first year, CIRA would allow 325,000 people to enter the United States under the guest-worker program, but the number could rise each year after that. The Heritage report estimates the total inflow of workers under this program at 20 million over 20 years.
Guest workers could bring their spouses and children to the United States as permanent residents, adding another 24 million immigrants over 20 years.
The bill would substantially increase the number of naturalized citizens, and they would have an unlimited right to bring their parents into the United States with legal permanent resident status. Heritage puts their number at 5 million over 20 years.
The number of secondary family members, such as adult brothers and sisters, would rise sharply and add more than 5 million new immigrants over 20 years.
The bill would greatly increase the number of employment-based green cards issued to 450,000 a year, and these immigrants could bring spouses and children with them, boosting immigration totals by another 13.5 million.

The Heritage Foundation concludes: "Although illegal immigration is considered a major problem, the proposed legal immigration under CIRA would dwarf it numerically ..."
If CIRA were enacted, and 100 million new immigrants entered the country over the next 20 years, foreign-born persons would rise to over one quarter of the U.S. population ..."
CIRA would transform the United States socially, economically and politically. Within two decades, the character of the nation would differ dramatically from what exists today."

I received a post on this blog calling me a “troll.” And I have heard the same description after posting on some liberal websites and going back later to gauge the reaction. Perhaps I should explain to the offended and ignorant.
I do go to liberal websites because I think the problem is that liberals only read liberal blogs and vice versa with the conservatives. If we want solutions and discussion we need to branch out and understand the other point of view and not just dismiss it without understanding it.

Damn Damn Damn

Well, we got the speech and we got “up to 6,000” National Guard along the border. But, up to 6,000 could be 5,500 or 5,000 or 2, just not over 6,000, and they are only going to be there for one year. Everything that I have read has said it would take a minimum of 36,000 National Guard troops to effectively seal off the border, so we are only 30,000 short, or 1/6th of what we need.
If that weren’t bad enough, I have been saying that the President was not for amnesty and I believed him, but as it turns out he is not for amnesty just like how Teddy Kennedy is not for amnesty. Those who have come here illegally will not be deported or punished but will be “made to get to the back of the line.” Well, here is the problem, all the people in the front of the line have to wait in their country of origin; they don’t get to come to the U.S. to wait. I think I understand now why the President and the Senate don’t want to call it amnesty because it really isn’t; instead it is a rewards program. “Come break our laws, and live here while you wait for the bureaucracy of the immigration system to give you a green card.” Amnesty would be saying we are not going to deport you or arrest you for breaking the law. This is, you broke the law, and unlike those who try to become citizens legally we are going to allow you to stay here and live and make money while enjoying all the freedoms and benefits allowed to citizens of this country. But, for those of you who are trying to get in legally, sorry you are going to have to wait in the front of the line.
And its not document fraud that causes businesses to hire illegals? Businesses want to hire illegals and they will accept the most pitiful of documentation. I have seen some of these forged IDs and you have to be an idiot to think they are real. Bush took the blame off business even though they knowingly hire illegals.
And as for the end of the Catch and Release Program, the Catch and Release Program is virtually terminated if they are all going to be granted amnesty because there will be no reason to catch them in the first place. Remember the story from two weeks ago about the 1,100 illegals that were all caught in a one day sweep? Well, they were all part of the Catch and Release Program, so they are all back to work now.
The only positive aspect of the speech was that local law enforcement are going to be allowed to act as Border Security rather than having their hands tied when it comes to encountering illegal immigrants. Looks like it is once again up to the little man to do the work the government won’t.
I find this all so frustrating and it seems like there is nothing I can do to stop it. I have written to Congress, and the Senate, and the President, but I am at a loss at what to do next. I just can’t fathom sitting by while the Senate sells out America to big business and special interest groups that represent illegal immigrants. I am open to suggestions here. Anyone got any?

Monday, May 15, 2006

I know I have not been active on here the past few days but I have been quite busy. As you might know the Senate is going to be proposing more immigration reform this week and their plan includes amnesty for those who are here illegally. In fact, Senators Frist and Reid have proposed sending a gang of Senatorial goons over to the House to get them to drop HR 4437, to drop the proposed idea of building the rest of the security fence between the U.S. and Mexico even though much of it is already in place, and to propose a bill in the House to grant Amnesty to those who have illegally crossed our southern border. I have spent the weekend emailing the Senate to inform them that what they are doing is wrong and bad for America.
Two funny things for that though. The first is that all 100 Senators accept emails from non-constituents except two, the two Senators from North Carolina; it seems they only want to hear from people in North Carolina. And second, oddly enough many of the Senators who claim their plan is not really “amnesty” because those who are here illegally now will have to learn English, well they are the ones who have the option to click on the “En Espanol” link on their Senate websites for constituents who don’t speak English. Is this because he Senate knows that literacy tests are illegal when it comes to voting and therefore their “English plan” is pretty mush illegal too? Or is it because the “English Plan” is really a ruse to sell to the American people?

Whites are only 55% of the population?

How is this not the number one story in every media outlet right now? I am a couple days late to it but only because I found out about it today.
From The Washington Post, Of U.S. Children Under 5, Nearly Half Are Minorities (May 10, 2006).

Nearly half of the nation’s children under 5 are racial or ethnic minorities, and the percentage is increasing mainly because the Hispanic population is growing so rapidly, according to a census report released today.
Hispanics are the nation’s largest and fastest-growing minority group. They accounted for 49 percent of the country’s growth from 2004 to 2005, the report shows. And the increase in young children is largely a Hispanic story, driving 70 percent of the growth in children younger than 5…
One in three Americans is now a member of a minority group…
…minorities are a majority of children younger than 5 in the Washington area…also true in Miami, Houston, Los Angles and other high-immigration regions.

The accompanying chart showed that as of July 1, 2005 where these census figures were taken from, the U.S. had a population of 296,410,404 where 33% were minorities, 67% were White, 2% were of mixed race, 14% Hispanic, 13% Black, and 4% Asian. At this time there were 20,303,724 children under the age of 5 and 45% were minorities, 55% were White, 3% were of mixed race, 22% were Hispanic, 4% were black, and 15% were Asian.

How does 14% of the population account for 49% of the growth? And how has the Asian population which accounted for only 4% of the total population account for 15% of children under 5, that is more than triple their number?

And here is a very startling question, where are all the black children? As of July 1, 2005, 13% of the population was Black but only 4% of the children under 5 were black? Regardless of whether you think a more ethnically diverse population is a good thing or not, the article made no mention of what appears to be a complete dwindling of Blacks in this country to possibly only 4% of the population. Many of you often criticize me when I give you population statistics, but I have said before that there was a problem in this country were 50% of black students do not graduate high school and 60% of black males who do not graduate high school end up in jail by their 30s. Perhaps someone would like to explain to me again how I was exaggerating the effects of system that is allowing black males to fall to the wayside.

Good News for Bush

As it turns out the President does not have the lowest approval ratings of any President in modern times. In The Washington Post article Bush Suffers Erosion in Conservative Base, Bush actually comes in third among Presidents for the lowest approval rating at any point of presidency (May 11, 2006). The poll shows the percentage of poll respondents who said they approved of the job the President was doing, and although Bush’s May 2006 numbers show on a 31% approval rating this is above Truman in November 1951 at 23%, Nixon in August of 1974 at 23%, and Carter in June of 1979 at 28% (Washington Post, May 11, 2006).
But, G.H.W. Bush never got below 33%, Johnson below 35%, Ford below 37%, Reagan below 42%, Clinton below 43%, Eisenhower below 48%, and Kennedy at a whopping 56% (Washington Post, May 11, 2006).
So the American people feel that Bush is doing better than Truman who got American into the Korean War, Nixon who was impeached, lied to Congress and the country, and Carter who allowed Castro to dump over 100,000 Cuban criminals onto our shores and then allowed them to stay.
Just so you all know, Bush is not going to replace Cheney even though that might increase his approval ratings. Bush knows that an impeachment process takes a long time, and almost across the board everyone agrees that impeaching Bush and thus making Cheney President would be even worse. I am glad though that while the country is engaged in a tough immigration debate, where he stands on the wrong side of the debate, he figures it would be better to go out and talk about his complicated and ineffective prescription drug plan. Personally, I think he still has plenty of time to catch Truman.

I will admit I go to a lot of liberal blogs, maybe 3 or 4 a day and try to rattle the cage a bit. It seems that everyone has their own opinion and they only read the opinion’s of those who believe the same. It’s the thinking that, “If I believe it, and he believes it, and she believes it, it must be correct.”
They’d all be better off if they put down the liberal Kool-Aid, and stopped here for awhile to learn the truth.

Iraqi Flag

Whatever happened to the “New Iraqi Flag,” didn’t the U.S. decide in 2004 that we didn’t like the old one, so the U.S. government was kind enough to design a new flag for the Iraqi people? Somehow we all forgot about this and yet I am not quite sure what happened. I remember that the big debate was that the new design looked too much like the flag of Israel, and then there were people who were upset that we tried to change their flag, and then nothing came out of it.
I wonder if we had changed their flag after all if there would be all the violence there now. Think of all the people who would be working to make all the new Iraqi flags; the U.S. government was only trying to crate jobs for the Iraqi people to win the hearts and minds.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is pregnant again and I am afraid to admit that the baby is not mine. In fact, I am almost 100% sure the baby is not mine.

Where are the women’s groups protesting for Women’s rights in Iran?

The Washington Post reported today that women in Iran “will be barred from attending soccer games…President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had ruled in April that he would allow women to go to soccer games and sit in a separate section of the stands…But Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei – who under the Islamic republic’s constitution has the final say – opposed the move” (May 9, 2006).
The United States government obviously wants change in Iran and they don’t want them to have a nuclear bomb, so why not get NOW or some other women’s group to go to Iran and start a women’s movement? One half of the population lives like second class citizens, imagine the possibilities if they said, “No more.” Would it bring about freedom and utopia? No, but in any country where women are that oppressed even a hint of freedom can be the beginnings of a snowball.

Brilliant Idea – Send a Brick

There is a group right now that has come up with a brilliant idea, Send a Brick. According to their website,
“The Send-A-Brick Project was created by concerned citizens to send bricks to Washington encouraging our Congressmen to stand tough on border security.
Each brick sends a message to our Senators and Representatives that we want our borders secured before any other action is taken on illegal immigration.”
You all scoffed when I mentioned that the Minuteman Project was proposing building a wall on private lands with private funds, do you mock this idea as well? I just can’t understand how any rational person can not see the crisis in front of us and not want to do everything they can to stop this tremendous problem we as a nation are facing.

World Cup Soccer

Now, I am not much of a soccer fan; pro and college football, college basketball, and NASCAR take up the bulk of my sports watching time, but, I am starting to get a bit of World Cup fever. I think it’s hard not to considering the importance the World Cup has around the world. In the World Cup an actual world champion is named because the whole world plays and not like the NBA which names a world champion when only the U.S. and Toronto play.
But, the World Cup is important because unlike the Winter Olympics which are made up of numerous sports that no one cares about and few countries that actually compete, every country in the world can participate in the World Cup if they put a team on the field that can win. And here is the best part, as it turns out the U.S. is actually really good, in fact they are ranked in the top 5 in the world. After years of barely being a top 30 team in the world, now we are now one of the best. But, our players are booed wherever they go, the crowds taunt them, and when they play in some counties the crowd will boo during the National Anthem.
I doubt I will get to Germany for the games, although I would love to, but I know that this year I am going to watch and I am going to cheer. I watched in 1994 when the games were here in the U.S., and I watched in 2002 when the games were in Korea and Japan, but this summer I think I will become a real fan of the games. I am not going to become a fan because the U.S. is good this year but because I think it is important to cheer on our fellow Americans as they face the world in a true world-wide competition. June 12, is the first game, and although they are playing a team from one of my ancestral countries, I am going to cheer for our guys. I hope you do the same.

Cinco de Mayo reminder

For those of you who are thinking about celebrating to commemorate a victory by the Mexican forces over the French, remember a few things. Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of Mexico winning that Battle of Puebla in 1862 against the French, but they lost the war. Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of a Mexican victory not Mexican Independence, because after the French Emperor learned of the defeat he sent more troops, defeated the Mexican army, and French Archduke Maximillian became Emperor of Mexico and Mexico became a quasi-French colony for 5 years. It was not until after the American Civil War when the US began to support the Mexican resistance fighters with guns and ammunition, that the Mexicans were able to dispel the French.
And now in Southern California, “black students each year skip school on May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, as Mexican gangs have warned in graffiti that they will shoot any black students who attend school that day (The Washington Post, Jail Riots Illustrate Racial Divide in California, February 20, 2006).

Another Drunken Kennedy?

The Associated Press reports that “Rep. Patrick Kennedy was cited for three traffic violations after his early morning car crash near the Capitol, according to a police report.
The report by a U.S. Capitol Police officer said Kennedy, D-R.I., drove his green 1997 Ford Mustang convertible into a security barrier near the Capitol shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, and that Kennedy had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance.
Kennedy said in a statement he had taken a sleeping pill and another drug that can cause drowsiness, but had not been drinking alcohol before the accident.
Kennedy, 38, told the police officer he was "headed to the Capitol to make a vote," the report said… Kennedy spent time at a drug rehabilitation clinic before he went to Providence College.” (May 5, 2006). His time in a drug rehabilitation clinic was for cocaine addiction.

And according to the AFP, “The accident Thursday comes just weeks after Patrick Kennedy crashed his vehicle with a car in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, on April 15, according to the New York Daily News. No charges were filed in that incident” (May 5, 2006). Patrick is the son of Senator Edward Kennedy. “Edward Kennedy's own presidential aspirations were ruined when he drove a car off a bridge near the town of Chappaquiddick, Massachusetts in 1969, killing a female passenger. He was returning from a party” (AFP, May 5, 2006).

How was he late for a vote in Congress at 3:00 AM? The last vote was over 6 hours before. I wonder if maybe he really was drinking? And he drives a 10 year old Mustang? He is from one of the richest families in the country, and he drives a 10 year old car? I will say this, at least he was driving an American car.
I said a few weeks ago I would be embarrassed if I was from Massachusetts and Teddy Kennedy was my Senator, well let me add Rhode Island for his son. I am not saying the Republicans are all saints, in fact far from it, but can’t we get better people to lead this country?

Illegal Immigration Protest Photos

Just wanted to share some photos from the Illegal Immigrant Protest this past Monday. Funny, I had to look on the internet to find these. For some reason the media never showed us any like this. I wonder why.

For more photos like these, check out Michelle Malkin’s site. I just found her myself and already I am a big fan.

Zacarias Moussaoui

Moussaouri escaped the death penalty today and instead will receive life in prison. I am a bit torn by the decision. I would have rather seen him put to death for his involvement in September 11th, but I don’t know if by being executed that would have made him a martyr and thus eligible for paradise and 40 virgins. So, instead I hope once he gets to prison he finds 40 big nasty prisoners who are looking for a virgin of their own.
Enjoy our paradise Zachy boy, I am sure you are going to be some bad man’s girlfriend real soon.

Shaquille O'Neal

This week Shaquille O'Neal’s wife gave birth to their sixth child. Now, I am happy that if someone is going to have this many kids, they can afford them, but does this man really need to have six kids? Now, I don’t know how big his wife is, but in my family the son is always taller than the father. Do we really need six of this man’s kids roaming the streets? I like Shaq, I find him quite amusing and I think he is a freak of nature on the basketball court, although his rapping and acting leave a lot of be desired. But, there is a finite amount of food in this world and this man’s family alone is going to consume a huge portion of it. The man is seven foot one and weighs between 320 and 360 pounds, imagine the damage this family will do at a buffet. Imagine the size of the cars needed to haul his family around on a road trip and the amount of gasoline it will take to fuel such a monster car; I don’t think the car runs on Shaqdiesel either.

Of course this was a post mostly in jest, but I figured we could all use some levity.

9-11 Is All a Conspiracy?

I have been having a quite lively debate with bob h about 9-11 as part of the “I thought Martin was the Crazy One” post.
I had no idea this was even up for debate. Bob, if you read this top post perhaps we can get others to join in too because as it appears I have not done enough to support my belief that the government could not and would not lie to us in this magnitude. I am not a physics or engineering major so I can only go with logic and reason, but perhaps someone can add some science to the discussion.

From the Associated Press, Sunday, April 30, 2006

This is just a excerpt from an article entitled Old War Haunts Debate Between Mexico, U.S. :

“In the United States, some anti-immigration activists see migrants as a threat to American land and culture, part of a Spanish-speaking invasion that will reclaim the American Southwest.
Their concern is fed by occasional Mexican references to the booming immigrant population as a "reconquista," or re-conquest, and by the Mexican government's efforts to reinforce the migrants' ties to their homeland.
When hundreds of thousands of mainly Latino marchers turned out for a pro-immigrant demonstration Los Angeles in March, Mexican television reporter Alberto Tinoco sounded almost giddy.
"With all due respect to Uncle Sam, this shows that Los Angeles has never stopped being ours," Tinoco said on the Televisa network's nightly newscast.
Prominent Mexican writers Elena Poniatowska and Carlos Fuentes have spoken sometimes of a "reconquista." Poniatowska says Mexicans are recovering their lost lands "through migratory tactics." Fuentes portrays it as a powerful northward thrust of the Spanish language that will enrich both nations.”
But, I am glad that no one else here in American thinks this might be an “invasion.”
