Random Quote

“If you kick out 11.5 million to 12 million people, it will bring this economy to a screeching halt.”
- R. Bruce Josten, a senior executive with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (Washington Post, March 8, 2006).
So, essentially, a senior executive from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has said that the U.S. government has thrown up its hands and given up on stopping illegal immigration. But, we can’t seem to get rid of any illegal immigrants right now, much less 12 million of them. Even if the government decided tomorrow to start deporting those who are here illegally, it would take years to deport all 12 million of them, and with more than 400,000 coming to this country every year, even if the government tried they couldn’t deport all the illegal immigrants in this country. The argument that the economy would come to a screeching halt is correct, but only if all 12 million all left on the same day, and that is not going to happen. Does the government believe that by finally attempting to control our border that suddenly the 12 million people who are here illegally will all decide to leave at the same time?
I am not sure which is worse; that the government has given up because it’s too hard, or that the government isn’t going to try and hide behind a ridiculous comment like this all to protect big business.
