Happy St. Patrick’ Day

Remember that today is about more than drinking. In Ireland, St. Patrick the patron Saint of Ireland, is a respected religious figure who brought Catholicism to the island and converted her people from their druidic and pagan ways. St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration in Ireland and was the one day during Lent when Irish Catholics would eat meat, and no not the corn beef and cabbage that we hear about, but ham or bacon with potatoes, cabbage and carrots. So today and especially tonight, celebrate your Irish Heritage, but remember it is about more than green beer and Guinness, it is also about being one of the lucky few who can truly say, “Kiss Me, I’m Irish,” because it was the Irish that saved Western Civilization.

During the Dark Ages it was actually in monasteries in Ireland where the literary works of the Western World were kept and not destroyed. During the Dark Ages anything written down was considered useless and education and the ability to read were deemed unimportant. It was in Ireland where these works were kept, protected, and reproduced thus saving Western Civilization.
