Protect and Defend

Welcome to my blog, Protect and Defend. You don’t have to understand me. You only have to agree with me. I can live with losing the good fight, but I can not live with not fighting that good fight at all. - Publius

Daily Rant

I am constantly amazed how misguided and utterly devoid of logic the radical Islamic Movement is in the Middle East. And this misguided violence and uprising appears to be only on the upswing. Wednesday in Samarra, Iraq, insurgents posing as police destroyed the golden dome of the 1,200-year-old Askariya shrine, one of Iraq's holiest Shiite shrines. The shrine, also known as the Golden Mosque, contains the tombs of two Shiite imams, who are considered by Shiites to be among the successors of the Prophet Muhammad. This destruction of a Shiite shrine by insurgents set off a wave of violence as angry crowds rushed into the streets and militiamen attacked Sunni mosques, and at least 19 people were killed even though no Sunni group claimed responsibility. Additionally, 90 Sunni mosques were attacked with automatic rifles or rocket propelled grenades, burned or taken over by Shiite militias. In the predominantly Shiite town of Basra, police said militiamen broke into a prison, hauled out 12 inmates, including two Egyptians, two Tunisians, a Libyan, a Saudi and a Turk, and shot the 12 dead in reprisal for the shrine attack; 7 of the 12 prisoners were not even Iraqi but foreign Muslims. But, even with all this Muslim against Muslim violence some Shiites lashed out at the United States for being partly to blame. In Najaf, Kut and Baghdad's Shiite slum of Sadr City, thousands of protestors marched through the streets with many shouting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans and burning the U.S. and Israeli flags. Yet, after the attacks it was U.S. and Iraqi soldiers working together to surround the shrine to prevent further destruction and 500 additional soldiers were sent to Sunni neighborhoods in Baghdad to prevent more death and destruction. The U.S. did not blow up the shrine, nor did they retaliate against Sunni Iraqis, instead they acted to prevent more death and violence and yet protestors still marched and protested against the U.S.
There is nothing else to compare this to anywhere else in the world. It is so entirely illogical that there is nothing to compare it to, it would be like if the Baptists blew-up St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and the Catholics responded by protesting Latvia.
I am at a loss on how to deal with and defeat radical Islam because it is radical Islam that is at the heart of this latest wave of violence and destruction. You can not defeat an abstract idea like radical Islam with the tangible weapon of a gun. I believe that the radical Islamists know this, they are not trying to defeat non-radical beliefs with military battles, instead they seek to completely wipe off the face of the earth anyone with opposing ideals and any object or artifact that represents those opposing ideals. Radical Islam seeks to eradicate any opposition to their thought and beliefs and that opposition includes the U.S. This is not World War II where we took-up arms to prevent the spread of fascism; this in all reality is World War III where we must use any and everything at our disposal to prevent our own destruction.
