Daily Rant

Terrorism and terrorist states are sponsored by oil. The United States has such an invested interest in the Middle East because of it abundance of oil and yet most Americans are unaware of how easily this can be changed. The United Sates does import a majority of its oil from foreign nations, but most of that imported oil comes from countries in our own hemisphere. In fact, less than 20% of the oil imported comes from the Middle East. If the United States could only cut down on its oil consumption by 20% we could conceivably release ourselves from the stranglehold that is around our throats by counties like Saudi Arabia and Iran that otherwise have little resources that can sustain their regimes. As China and India become world powers and their economies grow and with it their thirst for oil, the U.S has the opportunity and necessity to invest in alternative fuels like coal, biodiesel, and hydrogen. The U.S. is currently abundant in coal and the world is abundant in hydrogen. Biodiesel is any diesel-equivalent biofuel made from renewable materials like vegetable oil or animal fats. We literally could drive our cars on the very food at our dinner tables. As China and India’s economies grow they can not afford to invest in these alternative fuels but the U.S. has no choice. Let India and China worry about unrest in the Middle East while we search for the means to make America once again self-sufficient. Yes, expense goes up in the short run, but the long term investment is not only worth it but necessary. Right now this country is fighting the good fight and China and India are enjoying our sacrifices. If they want to sit at the table with the big boys then let them earn it.

Good point about our focus on the Middle East. When did conservatives become so focused on international affairs? That was once the exclusive territory of "concerned" liberals with various agendas. I guess it's not so different though than talking about some of our current "legitimate" agendas overseas.

I know, I know: active defense of the homeland. Fine. But I would rather live in fear or rely on my guns to protect my family in the case a terrorist regime storms my home than to lose all of my civil liberties to the federal government simply because we are in the midst of a conflict.

And I'm not sure that I would classify coal as an "alternative energy" other than the fact it could be utilized more than it currently is, although extraordinary advances in clean-buring coal have been developed in the past decade. Quite honestly it blows my mind that we are a mere 90 million miles from an effing star and we can't efficiently harness its essentially limitless energy.

HOw do we cut oil consumption by 20% though? Too many people stand to make too much money by continuing with things as they are. And unfortunately, these people seem to have influence. I agree that the expense of making these changes would pay off in the long run, but, again, somebody "important" may have to take a pay cut, and I don't see anyone lining up for that.

"But I would rather live in fear or rely on my guns to protect my family in the case a terrorist regime storms my home," another poorly thought out idea by the Kool-Aid drinkers on the Left who often don’t even own guns to defend themselves in the first place. Muslim terrorists do not have tanks, or bombers, or an army and navy that is going to invade our shores with a D-Day type landing in California or Virginia. No, terrorists are going to attack us with bombs strapped to their bodies (Israel) or in backpacks (London) or along rail lines (Madrid) or they will use truck bombs (the first WTC attack) or fly planes into our buildings (9/11). The U.S. has no fear of an invading terrorist army, but the U.S. and every one of our citizens do need to fear sleeper cells that are either already here or will be coming here soon through our porous borders that will attack us and thus “terrorize” our people into fear. The Airlines were severely damaged by the 9/11 attacks as people were afraid to fly, and this same fear has hurt the London subways and the Madrid railways. A standing militia will not protect us from terrorists, only the government can do that, and if you take away any tool at their disposal you run the risk of more innocent people losing their lives. If the government checking my Google searches or putting a wiretap on my cell phone saves the life of even one innocent person than it is worth it. I have nothing to hide. Are the so-called champions of civil liberties like the ACLU really out to protect us, I say no, in fact if anything they are putting us all at risk. And I ask them, what is it that they have to hide?

Oil consumption can be cut by using biodiesel in our cars rather than gas. The U.S. already has the ability to run many cars on fuel that is up to 25% biodiesel, and this alterative fuel is all produced right here in America. There are already 1000s of various, and often pointless tax deductions out there, purchasing a vehicle that runs on biodiesel should be one too. In addition, Hybrid vehicles already are given permission to ride in HOV lanes regardless of vehicle occupancy, biodiesel cars should be afforded this same luxury. And with the Big Three American automakers all looking for ways to boost their domestic sales Ford has jumped to the lead in producing Green vehicles like their Ford Escape SUV that gets over 30 miles a gallon. The opportunity and profits are all out there, it is only a matter of getting people on board by making them realize the seriousness of the situation. Perhaps organizations like Greenpeace and PETA should put issues like how chickens are treated or whether I can cut down a tree for Christmas on the backburner and use their exorbitant bank roll to do something worthwhile so we could quickly solve this problem.

Conservatives have never been good at picking up sarcasm or humor in general (although W and Donnie Rums would like me to, I have no real fear of a "terrorist storming my home"), but I will give you a pass this time since picking up sarcastic typing is espescially difficult.

By the way, what is it that you believe the ACLU is hiding? A secret desire to destroy America? Easter eggs?

The ACLU hates America and everything it stands for period. This is an organization that has defended NAMBLA and has taken up every atheist/secular progressive issue that it has come across. The ACLU does not protect civil liberties or the rights of the oppressed; it seeks to destroy America through a judicial system that has become more powerful than the other two branches of government while attempting to erode our values and heritage through judicial activism. The Left uses the court system and groups like the ACLU to advance their issues, issues that do not reflect the values of Americans, because the Left does not speak to America, at least not the America between New York and Los Angeles. Look at history, since 1968 when the Republican Party began to take shape as the union between economic and social conservatives, the Republican Party has won seven of the last ten Presidential Elections, and the 1976 election put Jimmy Carter in as President, the man who allowed thousands upon thousands of Cuban criminals to not only land in America but then to become citizens as well, and I believe the record of former President Clinton speaks for itself as an embarrassment upon the office the likes of which had not been seen since Watergate.
And yes, the ACLU is against Easter eggs because Easter is a religious holiday and the ACLU is against any expression of this nation’s Judeo-Christian values.
