Daily Rant

On February 12th at 8:00 p.m. E.T., the National Geographic Channel will televise a special on the El Salvadorian gang MS-13. I encourage and hope any and all of you who read this will watch this special. MS-13 is the most dangerous organization in America today. Originally founded in Los Angeles, MS-13 members were El Salvadorian immigrants, here in this country both legally but most illegally, who formed the organization as a means of protecting themselves from rival Mexican gangs in LA. The MS-13 members were often deported back to their home country for being here illegally or would return home to fight as guerillas in the El Salvadorian civil war during the late 1980s. During this war, the gang members learned guerilla fighting tactics and the use of firearms, bobby traps, and explosives. These guerilla fighters returned to the U.S. and the gang has since spread beyond its original purpose of protecting El Salvadorian immigrants from Mexican gangs, and now includes members of various Hispanic origins. As of 2005, MS-13 is estimated to have 50,000 members in Central America and between 8,000 and 10,000 members here in the U.S. MS-13 is involved in such activities as murder, drug and human trafficking, and general mayhem. This organization is more violet, deadly, and numerous than the Italian Mafia in any point of its history.
The word “Mara” in Spanish means gang, while the word “Salvatrucha” is Salvadorian slang for being alert or ready, as in being prepared to commit a crime. The number 13 has long been used to represent Hispanic gangs in Southern California and the letter M is the 13th letter of the alphabet. It has also been rumored that the 13 may represent the American judicial system where a 12 man jury plus 1 judge equals 13.
For those who believe in open borders and find policies to curb illegal immigration as racist, I encourage you to see exactly what happens when America does not defend her borders. For those who believe the government is not doing enough to protect America from illegal immigration I encourage you to watch the chilling details of what is happening in Los Angles, Long Island, Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. In August of 2005, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 1,057 gang members, 582 of whom were members of MS-13. Ignorance is not an excuse.

Understand that republicans and conservatives are two separate groups working together. Republicans represent the money and wealth of the Party; they are for big business, limited government and defense spending to guarantee the spread of capitalism and capitalist societies which then brings in more wealth. The conservatives represent the masses of the Party; they are for traditional values, God at home at school and at work, and support government programs that protect the citizens from those who wish to do us harm whether it be foreign powers or the secular powers at home. Republicans and conservatives are separate groups that normally would not find the common ground to work together except in times of war, whether it is the Cold War or the War on Terror. In some ways, republicans and conservatives believe that people are generally evil, republicans find that it is the market that will right the system and create balance while conservatives believe through God that good men can protect the innocent from the wicked and defend those in need from those who wish to do them harm. Separately neither group is strong enough to lead this country, but together they have the collective will to lead this nation forward. What the Left must understand is that times of war create strange bedfellows and as we are again engaged in a long and difficult conflict it is the republicans and the conservatives who have become united to lead and defend this nation against those who dare to do it harm; it is the Republican Party that protects us while we lay asleep in our beds at night not the Democrats. Yes, the left will win some battles against the Right, but it must not win the war or it will mean a loss for us all.

To Kanye West: Your foolish comment that George Bush doesn’t care about black people was not only wrong but made you sound unintelligent and ignorant. George Bush does care about black people, but only rich black people. But, if it makes you feel any better he does not care about poor white people or poor Hispanics or Asians either, and the same is true with all politicians. Do you think that politicians care about the poor black people living in ghettos, the poor rural whites living on small farms or working in coal mines, poor Hispanics who work as migrant workers or domestic help, or poor Asians who get smuggled into this country in metal containers to work in sweat shops? The answer is no. Poor people do not give money to political campaigns and poor people do not get politicians elected. Politicians only care about rich people because it is the rich people that pay for their campaigns that allow politicians to run ads that tell people to vote for them. Rich people run for public office and other rich people pay for them to get into public office. The poor get promises of what they want to hear, not what the politicians are actually going to do. Politicians always put the needs of the rich over the will of the people because politicians know the people will follow along and believe whatever they are told on television. Why do you think so many people believed your statement?

Daily Rant

I believe in the original intent of the Second Amendment. Our Founding Fathers, in their infinite wisdom, learned from a history over more than two millennia that nations, city-states, and empires have been invaded by other peoples intent on conquering, and that Americans needed the ability to protect themselves from foreign invaders. This lesson was never truer that the years preceding our nation’s founding against the British Empire where ordinary citizens engaged in battle with the trained army of an invading nation and the foreign mercenaries hired by that nation. Our Founding Fathers also understood from their more recent history that Americans would need to protect themselves from the Indians on the frontier as the fledgling nation continued to grow. However, for all their infinite wisdom, our Founding Fathers could never have predicted the technological advances in weaponry that exist today. Our Founding Fathers believed that a man should have not only the ability to protect his family but also the ability to feed his family through hunting, both of which required the weapons of the day, namely muskets. But, they could never have imagined automatic weapons, bullets that can pierce armor, or cheap yet deadly handguns. In our nation of nearly 300 million there are now more than 200 million guns; 2 in every three people in our nation own a gun, and not all of those 200 million people are law abiding citizens. Like our Founding Fathers, I believe in an individual’s right to bare arms to protect their family or to feed that family. But, I do not believe that this right carries over to purchasing semi-automatic weapons, sawed-off shotguns, armor piercing bullets, automatic weapons, or guns that have no place in the activities of defense and sustenance. If you need an automatic weapon to keep you and your family safe, than you have bigger problems than the Second Amendment. It is illegal to hunt with automatic or semi-automatic weapons, and yet they are easily purchased both legally and illegally in our country today. I do not advocate taking the guns from the people, than only the criminals will have the guns and thus make us all less safe, nor do I advocate making our police military-style protection forces with automatic weapons and body armor. But, I do advocate gun laws that make sense, laws that we do not have in place today. If our Founding Fathers, in their infinite wisdom, could see the state of affairs in our nation today, I am sure they would agree.

For some reason the recently discovered tunnel between the U.S. and Mexico has made big news. And yet, there is no reason that this tunnel should be making such headlines. The tunnel was discovered by U.S. Border Patrol Agents between Tijuana, Mexico and Otay Mesa, California, it was more than 1,200 yards long, 5 feet high and 3.5 feet wide. The tunnel is “rumored” to have been controlled by Mexican drug lords and more than 2 tons of marijuana was found in the tunnel mostly on the Mexican side. The tunnel was also used to transport illegal immigrants over the border, or in this case, under the border, illegally into the United States. But, this is the second tunnel found by U.S. Border patrol Agents this month alone, the second tunnel was discovered between Mexico and the United States, west of the San Ysidro, California, port of entry. In fact, more than 20 tunnels have been found since 9/11 in California and Arizona.
The U.S. and Mexican border is 1,900 miles long and there are assuredly hundreds of other such tunnels along this expansive border where illegal drugs and immigrants are being smuggled into this country. What makes this latest tunnel so scary was not the sheer architectural capacity of the tunnel but that it was controlled by Mexican drug lords who hopefully have only used the tunnel for drugs and smuggling illegals, but how can we be sure that the tunnel was not also used to smuggle in terrorists or God forbid a weapon of mass destruction?
It is time for the U.S. Government to wake up and start to protect and defend our southern border. For too many years our nation has been sold-out to big business who want cheap illegal labor rather that paying legal wages to U.S. citizens. Post-9/11, this nation can not allow this illegal and dangerous smuggling to continue. This news story about another illegal tunnel along the border should not be big news because we are so surprised it exists, instead it should be big news because it continues to show how porous and potentially dangerous an open border policy is to our country. We will never win the “War on Drugs,” the “War on Terrorism,” or be able to defend our nation until the government takes serious and immediate actions to defend us from those who want to destroy this country.

Why are there so few cool conservatives? Sure, there are Rush, Arnold, Rudy, and O’Reilly, but compared to the laundry list of celebrity liberals it seems entirely disproportionate. In fact, there are so few conservative popular/cultural icons that they are all recognizable with one word names. And even in this list, Rudy is Pro-Choice and hardly a “conservative,” Arnold is a Republican but being Austrian and the Terminator gives him more conservative credentials than anything he has done, and O’Reilly refuses to admit to being a conservative. But, look at the number of proud-to-be-liberal popular/cultural icons who regularly expound to us their entirely uneducated views: Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez (I know this is a stretch anymore but he was a member of the Brat Pack), Michael Moore, the Dixie Chicks, Stuart Smalley, Howard Stern, Ben Affleck, Tim McGraw, Sean Penn, Kanye West, Barbara Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, and the list goes on and on. Hollywood and the music industry seem to be full of liberals. Although in the stand-up comedy circuit, conservatives have Dennis Miller and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys, but how can they compete with the likes of Bill Maher, George Carlin, and Jon Stewart? Stewart was a relative no-name, until he took over as host of the Daily Show, the fake/real news show on Comedy Central where a deceptively large number of people between the ages of 18 and 29 get their real news, and who now hosts Hollywood award shows, although still surrounded by like-minded individuals, his rise to fame was precipitated by his attacks on conservative ideology. Considering America’s youth is constantly bombarded by the views of these liberal celebrities it is amazing that anyone under 30 is a conservative anymore. Liberal vs. conservative indoctrination has become a battle between what is popular and what is correct. God Bless you, Toby Keith and Mel Gibson, two of the few icons of conservative belief, whose popularity is both appreciated by conservatives and misunderstood by liberals.

When did it become acceptable to make fun of the Irish and Irish people? Now, this is not a new phenomenon, if you look back through history it is easy to find the “No Irish” and “No Irish Need Apply” signs that were hung in shop and business windows in the late 1800s and early 1900s, even major city newspapers would depict the Irish as drunks, apes, subhuman, and low-class fighters who paid an unwanted allegiance to an Italian Pope. Now perhaps this blatant discrimination and degrading treatment has subsided but it still exits in the media today. In the movie Blazing Saddles the townspeople became willing to accept the Asians and Blacks (not the terms used in the move) but not the Irish until convinced otherwise. And in an episode of the television show Friends, Joey tells Monica to get back on his Italian mother’s good side to tell her she hates the Post Office and the Irish. The television show Who’s Line Is It Anyway, would often bring out a bit called the Irish drinking song, where the comedians would sing a song in the style of an “Irish-melody” while pretending to hold up pints of beer. There is no ethnic group that gets attacked in such a manner and regularly in television by actors and comedians than the Irish. Even the once predominately Irish-Catholic school, Notre Dame, uses a leprechaun-like mascot posed in a position with his fists back as if ready to fight in a bare-knuckles boxing match. There is no problem when someone like Conan O’Brien makes fun of his Irish heritage and red hair, self-deprecating humor is one of the foundations of stand-up, but what gives other so-called comedians the right to do the same? Imagine the uproar if an Irish comic were to joke about Puerto Ricans or Muslims, they would be booed off the stage or the television show would be bombarded with angry phone calls. To prove this point, an episode of Seinfeld was removed from syndication when it showed Kramer accidentally lighting a Puerto Rican flag on fire at a Puerto Rican day parade and then stepping on the flag to put out the fire, after NBC received complaints. What if Kramer had lit an Irish flag on fire at the St. Patrick’s Day parade? I am sure nothing would have happened. Remember it was the “comic genius” of radio DJs Opie and Anthony who broadcast two individuals having sex in St Patrick’s cathedral in NYC. Granted they were eventually taken off the air, but were brought back not long after on XM Radio.
Perhaps I am overreacting, or perhaps I am correct. But, for all you comedians out there, next time you make fun of the Irish, make sure there isn’t some big Irishman in the audience, or you might find out why the Irish are known for fighting.

Daily Rant

If I receive a phone call at work to tell me that my house is on fire and I speed home, I am breaking the law. Speeding is breaking the law, there are speed limit signs clearly posted and I am already well aware of the law. If I am caught breaking the law I should be fined according to the law. This is how the law works, regardless of motive, necessity, or need, when an individual breaks the law they are to be punished. If my family is starving and I steal a loaf of bread, you’re heart might go out to me and you might even sympathize with my plight but it still does not prevent me nor should it prevent me from being punished from breaking the law. This however is not the case with those who illegally come to this country. Illegal immigrants are exactly that, illegal. As much as your heart might go out for them or as much as you may sympathize with their plight, the fact still remains that they are breaking our laws by being here, and should be punished. That punishment is of course deportation. People who live here, and by this I mean both those who live in this country both legally and illegally, can not choose which laws to follow and which do not apply to them. I can not steal because I want or need to, I can not speed because I want or need to, and those who are here illegally can not be allowed to remain here because they want or need to stay here because of the conditions in their own country. Just as I know there are sings and laws that prevent me from speeding, those who illegally come to this country by coming across the border can see signs informing them not to, and they know that it is illegal for them to do which is why they come across the border rather than apply for citizenship. I understand their plight and I understand their needs, but the fact that their own country can not provide and support them does not make it mine or our responsibility. Breaking the law is breaking the law regardless of the circumstances. Those who break the law by being here should be deported as the only just and proper punishment for their crime.

Daily Rant

Bring back public executions. Criminals receive a sentence for three reason: to be punished, to be rehabilitated if rehabilitation is possible, and to act as a determent to others thinking about or willing to commit a similar crime. When a particularly heinous crime is committed, a defendant is sentenced to either life in prison without the possibility of parole of sentenced to death by execution. However, what is the purpose of life in prison other than punishment, there is no sense in rehabilitation as the criminal does not need to be rehabilitated to re-become a member of society if they will never again be a part of that society, now does this act as a deterrent to the public at large. It is for this reason that execution was meant to be the ultimate punishment for those who committed crimes so heinous that they no longer deserved to enjoy the right to life, even if that life was permanently behind bars, and it was meant to be a warning to those who might consider a similar crime with the knowledge that their actions could lead to death. But, even execution by the state has lost this deterrent factor in sentencing. Executions are now carried out in the middle of the night with only a small group of witnesses present at the execution. The public needs to know that those responsible for such heinous acts shall never again be released into society, and criminals should know the consequences of their actions. I am not advocating pay-per-view with people paying to watch executions from the comfort of their living room, which is only for those of such morbid curiosity that public executions have no determent factor. Nor am I advocating the carnival-like atmosphere of hangings in the Old West, people should not come out to an execution because there is nothing else to do on a Friday night. However, executions should be available to be viewed by the general public in the controlled environment of a public building or prison. People in general, and criminals specifically, have forgotten that we live in a society or laws and that those laws can not and should not be broken, and those who do break these laws will suffer the consequences. Let people see these consequences and see them in person, let them see the horrific consequences for those who commit these heinous acts that can not be tolerated by a civil society. This will not stop crime or deter all criminals, but if it does prevent even one senseless act of violence on society than it is worth it. Executions and public executions are not cruel and unusual punishment, they are the measured response by a judge and jury, a measured response that was not awarded to the victims of these heinous crimes, and a measured response intended to punish a criminal for his actions and deter a future criminal from theirs.
